Ace Hardware has raised close to $500,000 for Arizona’s sickest kids.

Our Friends at Ace Hardware definitely stand by their motto “The Helpful Place”. Each year, local Ace retailers raise funds for
Phoenix Children’s Hospital through in-store promotions and their Annual Golf Tournament. Since the partnership began in 1991,
Ace Hardware has raised close to $500,000 for Arizona’s sickest kids. We feel our gratitude is best expressed with an example of
how these funds make an impact for our patients and families. The letter below was written by one of our patients in gratitude of
your efforts.
On behalf of all of the patients and families served by Phoenix Children’s Hospital, thank you again for your compassion and
dedication to making a difference.
Sincerely,
Susan O’Donnell

When I was 10 years old I heard about a children's hospital on KMLE Country radio that was trying to expand and was in need of donations. I walked around my
neighborhood with a burlap bag and collected loose change from the neighbors.
They called us "change bandits". My mom had to look up the address of this hospital so we could drop off the donations. It just seemed like a good idea. Six years later, in April of 2007 when I was 16 I found out just how good it was to have Phoenix Children's Hospital in our community and in our back yard. Our family doctor thought I had strep throat. Five days later I was in an ambulance on my way to PCH. That night I had my first of six surgeries in five weeks.Since I was kept asleep for the first 6 days I only know what went on from my mom and dad and the nurses and doctors. During that first week of ICU I was diagnosed with a very rare bacterial infection in my abdominal cavity called Fusobacteria Nechrophorum which resulted in a "forgotten disease" called Lemierre's Syndrom. Even though I went into septic shock after the first surgery, because of the many great doctor's and specialists at PCH I made it through. My
family is forever grateful and thankful that a hospital like PCH is available in our community. Without this kind of facility dedicated to children we could easily have had a different outcome. My small contribution to the expansion years ago was worthwhile but it is nothing compared to what companies that pull together during fund raising campaigns can do for the hospital and our community. I want to thank you for all you have done to support PCH and what that support has meant to me and my family personally. You never know when you may need a facility like PCH but you will be forever grateful that it is here if or when you do.
Thanks to you and thanks to PCH I can look forward to coming back to PCH as a nurse someday and "giving back" a small portion of what I received from them. Not only does it save lives, it defines careers (at least it did mine)!
